Time magazine recently ran an interesting photo essay showing vintage computers from the very first, ENIAC, right up to the Cray supercomputers of the early 90s.
It’s certainly hard to imagine a time when interfacing with computers was done through punch cards and flashing binary lights, when the mere word “computer” conjured up massive, room-sized (or building-sized) machines that hummed and roared and generated immense amounts of electricity (and generated immense amounts of heat).
And here we are with our little laptops and smartphones and flatscreen TVs. But it wasn’t all that long ago! Hard not to wonder what computers are going to look like in another 50 years or so.
