What is ITIL?

ITIL® 4 is the most current iteration of the ITIL core publications. This is the latest version of ITIL® Foundation which is the edition that was updated in 2019. ITIL 4 Foundation enables candidates to look at IT Service Management through an end-to-end operating model for the creation, delivery and continual improvement of tech-enabled products and services.

Five ITIL Certification Levels
Entry level certification designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the ITIL service management life cycle and best practices. Ideally suited to the IT professional seeking an introduction to ITIL principles for business, ITIL Foundation study requires no prior coursework, ITIL certification levels or experience.
Translate words into action with ITIL Practitioner, a complementary program offering a practical approach toward Continual Service Improvement. Available to those applicants who have achieved a passing grade in the ITIL Foundation course, Practitioner training is not required in order to write the ITIL Intermediate exam but offers credit toward more advanced ITIL certification levels.
Open to candidates who have successfully completed ITIL Foundation, this Intermediate stage provides the modern IT professional with an in-depth look at Service Lifecycle and Service Capability. Since these topics are covered as separate, stand-alone modules focused respectively on issues related to management and technology, interested parties may choose to undertake one or both of the ITIL Intermediate offerings delivered by an accredited training organization.
Available to applicants possessing at least 17 total credits from Foundation and Intermediate ITIL certification levels, having met or exceeded the requirements for the Foundation course, and who have also achieved a passing grade for the Managing Across the Lifecycle (MALC) exam for a combined minimum entry requirement of 22 points.
The final piece of the puzzle, a Master certificate is reserved for those dedicated IT professionals who have completed all prerequisite ITIL certification levels and aim to achieve the highest degree of recognition for their superior knowledge and understanding of IT best practices and service management design.
Who is ITIL 4 Foundation for?
ITIL 4 Foundation is suitable for individuals who require a basic understanding of the ITIL framework and how it may be used to enhance the quality of IT service management within an organization. The certification also applies to IT professionals who work within an organization that has adopted ITIL and so need to be aware of and contribute to the overall service improvement program.
